Naga-Mandala (Play with a Cobra): This spring, Sarasota becomes the stage for a rare and immersive theatrical experience, staged in the unconventional setting of the Sailor Circus Arena. Inspired by South Indian folklore, Naga- Mandala blends theatre, music, and circus arts into a vivid exploration of love, identity, and imagination.

Literally meaning “Play with a Cobra,” the work transforms ancient myth into living drama. Written by renowned playwright Girish Karnad (1938–2019), a leading figure in modern Indian theatre, this visually striking production features local and national artists and brings an essential work of global theatre to Sarasota audiences.

“We’re thrilled to bring something magical to Sarasota with the Sarasota premiere of Naga-Mandala by Girish Karnad. A masterwork by one of India’s most important contemporary playwrights, the piece weaves myth, music, and love into a celebration of imagination and transformation rooted in South Indian folklore.”
