Tales from the First of May: The Circus Goes to Washington!

Chuck Fazio

Greetings, circus fans! It’s been a while since my last “First of May” post – so long, in fact, that I am no longer the “First of May” around here – but I wanted to share a few exciting happenings The CAC is currently experiencing…

First, welcome to our new website! We have relaunched CircusArts.org with a new design, new features and new media to showcase the best of the circus arts as we know it to be! Feel free to take a look around the new site, learn more about our Outreach Programs, explore ways to Get Involved with the organization and more!

Now, the most exciting of all, something that we have been working towards for a year and a half…

Pedro, Dolly and our red and white Big Top (along with 100+ Sailor Circus performers, staff, volunteers, coaches and more) are in Washington, DC for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, the nation’s largest folk arts celebration! From now until July 9, our organization is the participating partner, meaning our Big Top will host a number of youth circuses and professional artists of both national and international acclaim. In addition, 30 Sailor Circus students will take center ring as part of a special series of performances and demonstrations to showcase The Greatest “Little” Show on Earth as we know and love it to be.

I myself will be joining the team in DC next week to continue my social media coverage, but until then, take a look at some special behind-the-scenes shots of all that our team is up to in our nation’s capital…

Follow along with us on social media by visiting our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts (see below), as well as using the hashtag #CACinDC. You, our loyal fans, patrons and friends, are just as much a part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as we are.
