In the tradition of Sarasota’s rich circus legacy, Booker Circus Arts VPA introduces students to training in acrobatics, aerial arts, strength development, performance technique, and professional preparation.
Booker Middle School’s Circus Arts VPA program began in 2020 through a collaboration between Dr. LaShawn Frost, the Sarasota School District and The Circus Arts Conservatory. From its beginning with ten students, the program has grown to two full classes with a waiting list.
Students travel by bus to the Sailor Circus Arena and are instructed by a world-class coaching team of experienced performers and educators who have competed, performed, and coached professionally for decades. The program integrates athletic development, performance artistry, and academic excellence — shaping students into disciplined, resilient, and confident individuals.
Foundations: Designed for first- and second-year students in Booker’s Circus Arts VPA program, this curriculum builds a strong foundation in essential circus disciplines. Students develop core skills in acrobatics, trampoline, balance techniques, and introductory aerial work, establishing the strength, coordination, and confidence needed for continued progression in the program.
Developmental: Designed for students in their second and third years of Booker’s Circus Arts VPA program, this curriculum emphasizes the continued development of technical skills—particularly in aerial disciplines—while continuing to refine and strengthen foundational techniques. Students build greater strength, artistry, and performance quality as they progress toward more complex combinations and higher-level execution.
